Super Mario World Challenges was originally an EDP (EvilDaizo Productions) exclusive hack from 2013 where every single level takes stages from the original game and remixes them into more “challenging” versions, effectively giving them unique experiences. Think the postgame of Super Mario 3D Land, but a little more elaborate. It was not submitted back then simply due to stricter hack guidelines, but I am more confident to release this on SMW Central in 2021.

Since the original version, there have been some major changes:

  • For all the stages from the original SMW Challenges, each one contains a custom song composed by me.
  • The original levels have been tweaked for better feel.
  • The Red Switch Palace can now be found somewhere in the game to make a few obstacles much easier.
  • Brand new bonus stages have been added, replacing the old 35 Dragon Coin reward.
  • Completely rewritten dialogue for the various info boxes and castle destruction cutscenes.
  • Several easter eggs to find and hunt down.
  • Fifteen new dragon coins to find.
  • A brand new boss at the very, very end.

Note: Every level except Valley Fortubular (which is tweaked heavily) are levels designed in 2012-2013 respectively. Everything afterwards is brand new from 2021.

Trigger warning: due to this being made in 2013 (which is when I was an immature teenager), there is blood in the game. I wouldn’t mind it too much, and there’s no reason for it, but it’s kept simply because it’s a relic of it’s time and was in the original release.

Thank you for those who downloaded this rom hack.
Those who don't know how to patch BPS files should
first download FLIPS from SMW Central's Tool
Section, then apply this to a clean Super Mario
World rom (if you're lucky to have one). To test
if it's applied successfully, you should see the
DDV logo appear, then the name "Super Mario World
Challenges" with slightly different movement in
the title screen. If it starts with "Nintendo
Presents" and Challenges isn't part of the title
screen, chances are you're just playing the default
Super Mario World. I mean, if you haven't actually
played the original SMW before, you should do that
first just so you're prepared.

Super Mario World Challenges is a collection of
eleven "challenging" versions of SMW's levels, with
some kind of twist to mix things up. There are seven
for the main game, and four for the postgame. To
access the postgame, you must collect all 30 dragon
coins throughout the game, 5 in each level besides
the postgame final stage. There are a total of 45 to
collect, and a hidden red switch palace to hunt
down.
