-----------------------
This is a DEMO VERSION and is far from complete. This means that there are
probably lots of bugs and other icky things floating around inside. If you
happen to stumble across something that just doesn't seem right (like graphic
glitches or horrible crashes), please don't hesitate to let me know.
NOTE: Before submitting a bug report, please read the "Known Bugs/Issues"
section below. Thanks!
What is it?
-----------
It's a spiffy hack of Super Mario World, made possible by FuSoYa's wondrously
fabulous all-in-one SMW hacking tool, Lunar Magic, as well as some other
assorted (yet equally fabulous) tools.
What you need
-------------
- SMOPatcher.exe (or ODYSSEY.IPS and an IPS patcher).
- A Super Mario World SNES ROM (U.S. version 1.0, with header, 524,800 bytes).
If your ROM needs a header (i.e. the file size is 524,288 bytes), download
SNESTOOL or a similar utility.
- A decent SNES emulator. If it supports SMW, you're good to go. ;)
How to apply this crazy thing
-----------------------------
** BACK UP YOUR ROM FIRST! **
- Windows users: Just run SMOPatcher.exe, enter the location of your Super
Mario World ROM, then click "Patch". Easier done than said!
- Non-Windows users: Download an IPS patcher for your particular OS, and apply
ODYSSEY.IPS to your Super Mario World ROM. Please don't ask me how to use an
IPS patcher--read the instructions!
Known bugs/issues
-----------------
- Old SRM/save state files won't work with this demo. There have been *many*
internal changes since the first demo.
- I've implemented a "suicide button" feature in case you get stuck somewhere,
since there is no timer. Pause the game and press L+R to use it. Note that
this won't work in every level in the future, though.
- The Item Shop system isn't implemented yet. This is what the purple "S"
coins and "ITEM N/A" in the status bar will be used for. Pressing L and R on
the controller will make a coin sound, but won't actually do anything.
- I realize the "M" in the status bar is green. This needs to be changed in
every single custom palette, so...uh...I'll fix it later.
- Some enemies are unaffected by the spotlight in [level omitted], due to the
palette number they use. Will probably be fixed in a later release.
- Mario "disappears" when entering the pipe at the end of Alto Plains 1's
auto-scrolling area. I know what's causing it, but due to the way the level
is set up, I don't think it can be fixed.
- There are a couple of levels that are on the map, but aren't finished yet.
You can enter them, but there won't be much there.
- If you see weird gibberish in the "S" coin or "ITEM" slots in the status
bar, please let me know. I had to make some heavy modifications to the save/
load system to get this to work, and I probably missed a few routines.
- Lots of stuff isn't finished yet...but isn't that to be expected of a demo?
What was used to make this hack?
--------------------------------
Lunar Magic v1.62 - practically everything
Block Tool v0.98 - custom blocks
Mario World Reconfigurator v1.0b - sprite editing
YY-CHR v0.97, Tile Layer v0.50b - graphics editing
Translhextion v1.6c, XTree Gold - hex editing
IPS2EXE v1.5 - executable ROM patcher
Special thanks to...

The authors of the above utilities; everyone who found useful data locations
in the SMW ROM; and, of course, to Nintendo, for making Super Mario World!
