Sprites Are 1derful













“Sprite spam”
No term invokes more contempt. It’s artificial difficulty. It’s lazy. It’s uninspired. Or so they say. And now… it’s what this hack is about.
I’ve been interested in making a vanilla edit hack for a long time, but I wanted an old school style of level design that became lost or forbidden. When I saw “The New Mario World” by OnlineVideoSurfer, I fell in love. I would make a sprite spam hack.
What good is there in sprite spam, anyway? Because it will challenge your perception, prediction, and reaction like never before. It’s a different challenge on every attempt, for every strat, for every player.
It’s not entirely fair, especially when generators are involved, but I think it’s more fair than people give it credit for. The only consolation I can give is that I never save stated through my levels.
Some other characteristics:
Vanilla edit levels. Uses SA-1 and dynamic spriteset system. Lightly decheesed. Contains kaizo and non-kaizo.
