Daymaker: Release From Doomsday

Released:
By: Plasma303
Found on: smwc
Difficulty: 5

Initially released 11/18/2022, updated to v1.4 5/29/2024. Full list of changes is available in the changelog included in the ZIP. While largely focusing on graphical overhauls and tweaks, this update contains a few fixes and gameplay updates.

Daymaker: Release from Doomsday places you in the shoes of Daymaker, a fictional, friendly AI created by Nintendo during the development of Super Mario Bros. 3 to aid in level creation endeavors. After a routine day of aiding the development team, Daymaker takes a trip through the electrical cords to the residence of a close friend- and finds that her life is in great danger.

This is my first fully-playable hack, and took over a year to complete. ZIP contains the latest version, 1.4, with 88 exits and 64 levels.

v1.4
-Redrew all sprites for super/Red Panda Daymaker and Jennifer.
-Extended the final castle's length and visually overhauled most of its rooms.
-Reworked the overworld's graphics and added additional background detail.
-Remade the standard grassland and underground backgrounds. Certain World 8 levels have also received new backgrounds.
-Adjusted tilemaps for the Dino Highlands background to reduce cutoff.
-Redrew graphics for Koopa Troopas, Dry Bones, Frank, and Bowser statues.
-Added invisible blocks to Spice Reef to prevent the player from swimming over the entire level.
-Implemented a new title screen demo. The Special World level Title Drop has been altered to match the new demo level.
-Redesigned Bullet Bill and Banzai Bill to more closely resemble their canon designs.
-Changed overworld tiles for levels that contain secret exits to utilize a diamond shaped "dot" to help anyone that may be colorblind.
-Fixed checkpoint for the final castle when attempting to re-enter from the main entrance.
-Adjusted the midway entrance of Lemmy's Castle so that the player does not die while trying to collect a powerup from a block.
-Replaced the Reznor miniboss in Oregano Fortress and the green Star at the end of The Fleet Marches with Boom-Boom from Super Mario Bros. 3.

v1.3
-Implemented a custom sprite set for Daymaker.
-Fixed all "phantom tiles" appearing when paths are drawn on another submap on the overworld.
-Reworked tilesets and backgrounds for certain level themes.
-Added sprite replacements for Jumping Pumpkin Plant, Masked Koopa, Magikoopa, Monty Mole,
Dino Torch, Dino Rhino, Super Koopa, Urchin, Chargin' Chuck, all Koopaling bosses, Volcano
Lotus, Spike Top, large Switches, Swooper, Mega Mole, Sumo Bro, and Torpedo Ted. The final boss
was also updated to reflect the new Koopaling graphics.
-Added tile animations to certain objects.
-Fixed the Star Road not appearing upon clearing the "normal" secret exit of The Badlands.
-Added proper ending text upon defeating the final boss.
-Tweaked certain cave levels to use a previously unused cavern level tile on the overworld.
-Graphical updates to the overworld as a whole, including modifications to the Special World
cleared palette and specialized tiles for arid and rocky areas of the map.
-Removed an orphaned reference in Bullet Bridge's second textbox and replaced it with lore
about a major character in the story.
-Reworked Castles 1 and 6 to be longer.
-In-game credits completely overhauled for organization and legibility.
-Adjusted timer in Boss Blitz from 0 to 300, as dying with the old timer would count as a Time
Up instead of a normal death.
-Made the secret exit in Bullet Bridge slightly easier to access.
-Fixed Yoshi's tongue and fireballs being garbled in Starlit Swim.
-Lowered difficulty of the Ghost Ship and Twilight Ridge levels.
-Defeating a boss in Boss Blitz now unlocks a shortcut between Worlds 2 and 8.
-Fixed softlocks in Redrock River, Cappuccino Climb, #6 Wendy's Bastion, and Banana Bay.

v1.2.1
-Added permanent warp between the Special World and World 1 upon completion of the Special World.
-Further fixes to overworld warp pipes.
-Revised transition between Worlds 1 and 2 to keep the music from cutting out after beating Iggy.

v1.2
-Added visual indicators for the normal exits of Sweet Skies, Twilight Ridge, Throw Block
Trouble, Arbor Avenue, and Starlit Swim in the form of a small bush that appears near the
respective level tile. This is to clear up ambiguity as to attained exits for these levels,
as the Star World in both vanilla Super Mario World and earlier versions of Release from
Doomsday gave no hint to the player that they had gotten the normal exit, potentially
forcing replays of those levels to assure all exits are acquired.
-Fixed level tile not appearing if the level Toxin Trail was unlocked from the normal exit of
Wiggler's Woods instead of the normal exit of Forest Entry. Purely visual, as the level could
still be accessed normally.
-Fixed being able to move in any direction from pipe tiles on the overworld, which would trap
the player in an inescapable bonus game.
-Frank.
-Added sprite replacements for Fuzzy, Moving Coin, Moving Chainsaws, and various visual effects.

v1.1
-Removed Plateau Manor level to address reports of the level crashing at complete random for
certain people, rendering the secret exit, Jennifer's House, and the Quiet Plain inaccessible.
