Akogare 2

Over two years in the making this is the sequel to my first solo hack.
This time around I’ve gone with a mostly vanilla experience with a nice coating of sprite disassembly to spice things up from last time.
It features:
- 29 exits including 3 switch palaces
- Custom music
- A handful of secret rooms
- Another handful of 1-ups hidden in some sneaky places
- hand made backgrounds
The pressure I feel from the expectations after my first hack are something I’ve never felt before, however it does not deter me. In the end I know I am proud of what this project has become and that is all I need.
Play at your own pace, not every destination is a race, take stretch breaks and enjoy.

Thank you for downloading my hack Akogare 2!
I know a lot of people have been waiting for this day.
In this hack you will find a wide variety of level theming, custom music, a large effort of sprite disassembly work, some secrets and hopefully a lot of enjoyable gameplay.
This project has been just over Two years in the coming and I have poured a near unhealthy amount of work into it knowing the expectations of the community.
this hack would absolutely not be possible without the high effort from many people not just myself,
Without Atari2.0 helping me out with general asm and sprite and disassembly creation I would not be able to create the ideas presented in this project.
Special thanks BabaYegha, Sio_Kedelic and all my other wonderful testers who spent what felt like multiple weeks of their time meticulously going through version after version in an effort to ensure this project was as successful as possible. There is only so much one man could do on his own.
The testing Changelog from first private release to now as I am writing this feels like an essay with close to 12,000 characters detailing every change made to a level, overworld, asm, sprite, or game in general.
As well as everyone who showed up to my lunar magic streams for hanging out, chatting, and generally keeping me company as I worked away. Without streaming this project would not have been made as quickly as it was because of the motivation I gained from doing so.
10 official testers, and over 20 people who asked me during the period where I was looking for testers that is wild.
32 Assembly authors-worth of patches and code.
As well as another 27 Assembly authors-worth of sprite code.
55 music tracks, and near the same amount of composers.
A massive thank you to the community and it's resources.
Now onto some more relavant game-related information:
- There are 29 exits in total, you will know you have them all because the file select will have a star.
- Anytime you see or move on the overworld the game has already saved, this includes midways as well.
- Mario cannot swim in tides or water in this hack, nor can he climb ropes unless it is from an actual rope sprite, please keep this in mind and I hope it does not confuse.
- For those of you who like to practice things for speedrunning you can re-enter the 3 switch palaces using LR.
- Start Select is enabled, Screen Scroll is disabled.
- There are a few secret rooms so keep your eyes peeled for anything suspicious however they are all for fun and will not provide anything progress related.
- If you can't enter an overworld transition that is because it is locked until you clear a certain level to prevent backwards overworld movement to levels you have not seen or cleared.
- When in doubt go fast, take breaks, stretch your fingers and remember to have fun, that's my rule one of kaizo.
